ArmInfo. Negotiations regarding gas prices with the Russian side are ongoing, but given the situation on the energy market and amid falling oil prices, we do not think that now is the best time to talk about raising gas tariffs. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan expressed a similar opinion, answering journalists' questions during a press conference dedicated to 100 facts about the new Armenia.
In this vein, he stated that Armenia will continue to cooperate with its strategic partner in the context of the crisis and the social problems arising from it caused by the coronavirus pandemic. Regarding the activities of companies with Russian capital in Armenia, the Prime Minister noted that this issue was discussed in detail and openly with the President of the Russian Federation, during which clear agreements were reached that should be implemented based on the interests of the two countries. <We have a rich agenda of relations, solving the tasks of which, I'm sure that we will go forward. Most importantly, they should be resolved in the field of an allied friendly compromise and mutual understanding. I am sure that it will be so>, Pashinyan said.
It should be noted that on March 31, Armenian Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan stated that the government sent a letter to Alexey Miller, Chairman of the Gazprom Management Committee, about the beginning of new negotiations on reducing gas prices. On April 2, the Public Services Regulatory Commission of Armenia received a request from Gazprom Armenia to revise gas prices. According to the Statistical Committee of the Republic of Armenia, Russia holds the leadership in terms of total investments and FDI in the economy of Armenia- for 2019 $ 1.02 billion (with a slowdown in y-o-y growth from 23.5% to 3.4%), incl. FDI - $ 386.1 million (with a deterioration in y-o-y dynamics from 31.7% growth to 8.4% decline).
