ArmInfo. The Armenian government is considering ways to assist workers in the restaurant sector. On May 27, RA Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan stated this from a parliamentary rostrum, referring to the situation in this area when restaurant complexes cannot resume their work due to the risks of the spread of coronavirus.
Grigoryan noted that one of the main problems is that a number of workers involved in this area were not officially registered by the employer. This, in turn, prevents their identification for targeted assistance in the framework of anti-crisis programs. On the one hand, some of them were still able to take advantage of assistance under the 9th program, as well as programs for partial compensation of utility bills. However, given the seriousness of the problem, ways to solve it are under discussion. Grigoryan did not rule out the possibility that restaurant workers affected by the crisis would either receive assistance within the framework of already approved programs, or a separate program would be developed. This also applies to tourism workers who also lost their earnings due to the risk of coronavirus spreading.
To recall, earlier representatives of the restaurant sector held a protest in front of the Government building, demanding attention to their difficult situation. These included not only the leadership of restaurant complexes, but also musicians and event hosts. The protesters pointed out that their main earnings were mass events (weddings, celebrations, and so on), however, during an emergency it is forbidden to hold measures with the participation of more than 20 people, as a result of which they are forced to stand idle from March, and practically cannot feed their families.
