Manufacturing sector affected the growth rate of Armenia`s industrial  sector 

ArmInfo. The negative trend of the manufacturing industry in January-April 2020  affected the growth   date of the industrial sector in Armenia. According to the data of  the Statistical Committee of the Republic of Armenia, during the  reporting period, the volume of industrial production of Armenia  increased by 4.2% versus the same period of 2019 (against the 4.5%  growth a year earlier), amounting to 585.2 billion drams ($ 1.2  billion). In April alone, the industry showed a decline of 9.2% to  135 billion drams ($ 275.8 million).

In particular, in the mining industry and open pit mining, y-o-y  growth was recorded at 27.1% (against the 2.4% decline a year  earlier) - up to 115.7 bln drams. And in April alone the mining  industry showed an increase of 12.9% - up to 28.6 billion drams.

The volume of manufacturing industry in January-April 2020 decreased  by 1.7% in y-o-y terms (against growth of 7.8% a year earlier) - to  370.8 billion drams, with a monthly decline of 15.6% - to 85.8  billion drams.  Moreover, in the manufacturing industry during the  reporting period, all areas showed a decline, with the exception of  food production (an increase of 6.2%), the chemical industry (by  17.6%), pharmaceuticals (by 25.8%), furniture (by 35.5 %) and jewelry  (by 67.1%). The volumes of production of machinery and equipment  (36.7%), textile production (31.4%), computers and electrical and  optical equipment (29.8%), electrical equipment (29.5%). clothes (by  22.4%) declined most. In the manufacturing sector, food products  (127.4 billion drams), base metals (56.6 billion), cigarettes (45.8  billion), and drinks (45.2 billion drams) are leaders in terms of  production.

According to the statistics, the supply of electricity, gas, steam  and air conditioning as a whole increased in January-April 2020  versus the same period of 2019 by 5.9% (against the 0.2% growth a  year earlier) - up to 92.1 billion drams, with a monthly decline of  10.6% to 18.7 billion drams. Moreover, the generation, transmission  and distribution of electricity for the reporting period increased by  4.8% per annum, and gas production, distribution of gaseous fuels  through gas supply systems increased by 10.4%.

Revenues from water supply, waste treatment and treatment and the  receipt of secondary raw materials for the reporting period decreased  by 19.2% per annum (against 1.4% growth a year earlier) - to 6.6  billion drams. In monthly terms, this segment showed a decline of  2.1% to 1.6 billion drams. Moreover, the downward y-o-y dynamics in  this segment was mainly determined by the collection, processing and  destruction of waste, the receipt of secondary raw materials (a  decline of 27.8%).

The average settlement rate of AMD in April 2020 amounted to 488.66  AMD / $ 1, and in January-April - 483.90 AMD / $ 1, against 484.29  AMD / $ 1- in April 2019 and 486.49 AMD/ $ 1- in January- April  2019.
