ArmInfo. Gas supply issues in Armenia are regulated by a number of agreements reached in 2013. This was announced on June 11 during an online press conference by Russian Ambassador to Armenia Sergey Kopyrkin, answering a question about gas prices for Armenia.
"These are package agreements that imply mutual obligations of both sides, developed on the basis of a scrupulous miscalculation of economic, social and other factors. This is not something taken from the ceiling. These are package complex agreements based on a balance of interests and a scrupulous miscalculation of all factors, "the ambassador said, expressing the conviction that the question is too simple, asking why the price is not going down or going up.
Kopyrkin assured that this is a complex of serious issues requiring expert discussions and elaboration. "I can only add that the agreements that were concluded - they fully reflect the nature of our special relations, including membership in the Eurasian Economic Union. I would also like to point out one point if someone has the impression that Gazprom "or Gazprom-Armenia profit from Armenian consumers, then this is a completely wrong impression. I would rather say that there are serious economic problems for Gazprom and Gazprom-Armenia. Therefore, the issue of tariffs is being discussed taking into account a complex of problems, including the need to maintain the modernization of the gas transportation system of Armenia, "he said, adding that this is an issue that some forces are trying to pose in a certain political vein, although this has nothing to do with reality.
It should be noted that on June 11, RA Deputy Foreign Minister Shavarsh Kocharyan also touched on the topic in a conversation with reporters. According to him, negotiations on creating a single energy market within the EAEU are ongoing. It is that the EAEU organization is relatively young, and, for example, the EU had to go a much longer way to reach the current level of interaction. , the deputy minister said.
According to him, there is an agreement that there are problems in the issue of gas transit, and they have not been resolved. You saw that negotiations were ongoing, but they have not been successful so far. We note that two states export energy - Kazakhstan and Russia, and 3 countries - import. Negotiations are ongoing. There are serious interests. But questions require specification, and everyone can understand this in their own way. A delicate question>, - said Shavarsh Kocharyan.
The deputy minister clarified that not only in the EAEU, but also in other organizations, situations arise when members of the organization are, to some extent, captured by monopolistic companies. A similar situation is observed in the Russian Federation. Monopolist companies want to maintain superprofits even in the face of changes in the world, Kocharian concluded.
Recall that the Russian Federation sells gas to Armenia at the border at a price of $ 165. For 1 thousand cubic meters, which, in the opinion of the Armenian side in the current conditions is an overestimated amount. However, negotiations on the price for 2020 have not yielded any results.
