ArmInfo. On August 5, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan received representatives of companies working in the textile sector.
According to the press service of the government, the Prime Minister noted that the purpose of the meeting was to clarify the existing problems in the sector during the crisis and discuss the possibilities of their solution. "We must discuss possible support instruments that will help the sector get out of the crisis and return to the path of development," Nikol Pashinyan said.
RA Minister of Economy Tigran Khachatryan informed that 90% of Armenian textile products are exported abroad, and even during the crisis there was no decrease in demand. In the Q1 of this year, the textile industry grew by 22%, and in the second quarter - by 15%, which was mainly due to the reduction in opening hours caused by the coronavirus and the restriction of staff activities.
Representatives of the companies pointed out as a problem of reducing the volume of exports to unfavorable logistics conditions, which does not allow attracting new employees, training the necessary qualified personnel. Other issues were also raised, the solution of which can contribute to the development and progress of the sector.
In this context, the possibilities and mechanisms of state assistance in terms of job creation, training, technical re-equipment were discussed. Issues related to the simplification of export and import procedures were also raised. The Prime Minister instructed the responsible persons to continue discussions with the private sector over the next week and present a draft decision on aid instruments. The Head of Government urged the private sector to comply with anti-epidemic rules to avoid new outbreaks of coronavirus.
