ArmInfo. In the H1 of 2020, 15 893 children were born in Armenia, which is 0.8% less than a year ago, and 2.3% compared to the same period of 2018. According to the Statistical Committee of the Republic of Armenia, the birth rate per 1000 population decreased on an y- o-y basis from 10.9 to 10.8 ppm, against 11 ppm two years earlier.
The highest birth rate was registered in the city of Yerevan, where 6887 children were born during the reporting period. They are followed by the regions of Kotayk, Armavir, Ararat, Lori and Shirak, where the number of children born ranges from 1.000 to more than 1.300. In Gegharkunik region, 907 children were born during the reporting period. Over 600 children were born in Aragatsotn and Syunik regions, over 500 children - in Tavush region. And the lowest birth rate was registered in Vayots Dzor region, where only 217 children were born.
According to statistics, during the reporting year, 14.417 people died in Armenia, which is 5% more than last year's number, and 9% more than the number in 2018. The mortality rate in the country increased in the H1 of 2020 from 9.3 to 9.8 ppm, against 9 ppm in 2018.
The absolute value of natural population growth was 1.476 people, which is 35.7% less than a year ago. The natural population growth rate decreased over the reporting period from 1.6 to 1 ppm, against 2 ppm in 2018.
According to statistics, the population of Armenia as of July 1. 2020 amounted to 2.963 million people, an increase in annual terms by 0.05% or 1.4 thousand people.
To note, due to the spread of a new type of coronavirus in Armenia, 770 people died from a pandemic as of 11:00 on August 5.
