In Armenia the volume of industrial production in the H1 of 2020 increased by 1.5% against the same period of 2019 (against 6.9% growth a year earlier), amounting to 896 billion drams ($ 1.8 billion). According to the Statistical Committee of the Republic of Armenia, the slowdown in the growth of the industrial sector is due to the change in the trend of the manufacturing industry from an upward to a downward one, while the growth of the mining sector continued. Moreover, in June of this year, industrial volumes increased by 6.3% (against a 2.4% decline in June 2019), amounting to 160.3 billion drams ($ 333.2 million).
In the H1 of 2020 against the same period of 2019 in the mining industry and open pit development, an increase of 24.3% was registered (against 6.8% growth a year earlier) with the provision of volume in 181.5 billion drams. In June alone, the mining sector showed an increase of 2.2% to 33.8 billion drams. The volume of the manufacturing industry decreased in the H1 of this year by 3.6% per annum (against growth by 8.7% a year earlier), amounting to 578.3 billion drams, of which 107.2 billion drams fell in June, with a monthly growth of 7.7%.
Moreover, in the manufacturing industry, a significant drop in volumes in the H1 of 2020 was recorded in the production of textile products (by 32.2% y-o-y), machines and mechanisms (by 30.8%), computers, electrical and optical equipment (by 28%) , cigarettes (by 22.6%), printing activity (by 22.5%), rubber and plastic products (by 14.4%).
A high growth is recorded in the production of finished metal products (by 53.9% y-o-y), jewelry (by 33.4%), furniture (by 33.2%), the chemical industry (by 19.1%), pharmaceuticals ( by 16.2%). In the manufacturing industry, the leaders in terms of production are food (196.7 billion drams), basic metals (93.6 billion), cigarettes (70.1 billion), beverages (69.7 billion) and other metal products (28.1 billion).
The supply of electricity, gas, steam and conditioned air decreased in the H1 of 2020 to the same period of 2019 by 0.5% (against a decline of 0.3% a year earlier) - to 126 billion drams. In June alone, an increase of 4.3% was recorded to 17.4 billion drams.
At the same time, the generation, transmission and distribution of electricity in the H1 of the year decreased by 2% per annum, and only in June - by 21.4%. At the same time, gas production, distribution of gaseous fuels through gas supply systems increased by 7.2%, while in June alone, on the contrary, decreased by 5.6%. Revenues from water supply, waste treatment and treatment, and the production of secondary raw materials decreased in the H1 of the year by 20.9% per annum (against 2.7% growth a year earlier) - to 10.1 billion drams, with an increase of 15.5% in June alone - up to 1.8 billion drams. Moreover, the decline in this segment was mainly due to the collection, processing and disposal of waste, the receipt of secondary raw materials - by 73% per annum.
The average calculated exchange rate for the dram was 481.27 AMD / $ 1 in June 2020, and 483.50 AMD / $ 1 in the first half of 2020.
