Passenger traffic in Armenia has declined by July 2020, while cargo  transportation has grown

ArmInfo. The volume of cargo  transportation in Armenia in the first half of 2020 compared to the  same period last year increased by 3.4% - to 6 328.7 thousand tons,  against a decline of 57.5% a year earlier.

According to the data of the Statistical Committee of the Republic of  Armenia, of the total volume, 60.1% or 3,804.5 thousand tons accounts  for road transportation, which is 0.3% less than a year ago.  According to the statistics, rail freight traffic for the reporting  period increased by 12.9% - to 1,615.5 thousand tons. Air  transportation, on the contrary, decreased by 23% - to 6.7 thousand  tons. The main pipeline supplied 902 thousand tons of natural gas,  which is 4.4% more than a year ago. Freight turnover increased by 2%  - up to 2220.2 million ton-km. Passenger traffic for the reporting  period decreased by 54.7% - to 42 959.1 thousand people, against an  increase of 3.6% a year earlier. In particular, road transportation  decreased by 55.6% - to 35 929.4 thousand people, rail transportation  - by 21.5% - to 140.3 thousand people, air - by 59.5% to 627.9  thousand people. Passenger carriage by electric transport decreased  by 48.1% to 6261.5 thousand people. Passenger traffic decreased by  55.5% to 551.8 million passenger/km.

To recall, in order to prevent the spread of coronavirus infection in  Armenia, a state of emergency was introduced on March 16, which has  been extended for the fifth time - now until September 12. During the  period of emergency, cargo transportation is carried out in a normal  mode, however, international air, rail and bus services have not yet  been resumed, which directly affects the travel industry and related  segments.
