Processing  industry in Armenia is sinking

ArmInfo. The volume of industrial production in Armenia in January-July 2020 against the same period of 2019 increased by 1.3% (against 8.4% growth a year  earlier), amounting to 1.1 trillion. drams ($ 2.2 billion). According  to the data of the Statistical Committee of the Republic of Armenia,  the slowdown in growth is due to the subsidence of the manufacturing  industry volumes while the dynamics of the mining industry improves.

Moreover, in July of this year. the volume of the industrial sector  increased by 1.4% (against a 2.3% decline in July 2019), amounting to  AMD 164.2 billion ($ 338.8 million). In January-July 2020 to the same  period of 2019 in the mining industry and open pit mining registered  an increase of 20.9% (versus 9.5% decline a year earlier) with a  volume of 21.1 billion drams. Only in July, the mining sector showed  a decline by 16.9% to 29.4 billion drams.

The volume of the manufacturing industry decreased in January-July by  3.6% per annum (against an increase of 10.4% a year earlier),  amounting to 690.3 billion drams, of which 112 billion drams fell in  July, with an increase of 4.4% over month.

In particular, the decline in the manufacturing industry was due to a  decline in volumes in the production of textiles (by 43.7%),  machinery and equipment (by 37.1%), cigarettes (by 21.5%), printing  activities (by 17.7%). ). And high growth was recorded in the  production of finished metal products (by 46.1%), chemical production  (by 20.7%), pharmaceuticals (by 18.4%), furniture (by 31.2%), jewelry  (by 9 , 2%).  In the manufacturing industry, the leaders in terms of  production are food products (232.4 billion drams), finished metal  products (114.1 billion drams), beverages (84.6 billion), cigarettes  (81.4 billion) and other non-metallic mineral products (35.6 billion  drams) .

The supplies of electricity, gas, steam and conditioned air as a  whole increased in January-July 2020 by 2.2% against the same period  of 2019 (against a decline of 4.7% a year earlier) - up to 146.8  billion drams.  In July alone, an 18.1% growth was recorded to 20.8  billion drams. At the same time, generation, transmission and  distribution of electricity in January-July increased by 1.6% per  annum, at the same time, gas production, distribution of gaseous fuel  through gas supply systems increased by 5.6%.

Incomes from water supply, waste treatment and processing and  production of secondary raw materials decreased in January-July by  18.8% per annum (against 0.7% growth a year earlier) - to 12.1  billion drams.  Moreover, the decline in this segment was mainly due  to the collection, processing and destruction of waste, the  production of secondary raw materials - by 70.5% on an annual basis.
