ArmInfo.Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan posted a video on Facebook about the repair work on some highways in the country's Tavush region.
In particular, the video shows the process of modernization of a 4-kilometer section of the M-16 highway leading to the settlement of Berkaber. The cost of the program is about 330 million AMD. A 3-kilometer section of the road is also being updated of republican significance, leading to the Makaravank monument. The cost of this program is about 234 million drams. The road, as noted in the video, has never been paved.
A number of inner-communal streets are being repaired in Berdavan. The total cost of all works will be 813 million drams.
Earlier, ArmInfo, citing Deputy Prime Minister Tigran Avinyan, reported that in 2020 about 500 km of highways will be repaired in Armenia. Of this amount, the government of the country at a meeting on May 14 this year. approved a program for the modernization of 185.3 km of roads. 17.4 billion drams will be allocated from the state budget to implement this task. It is envisaged, in particular, to overhaul and carry out medium repairs of 97 km of interstate roads, 59 km of republican roads and 33 km of regional ones. In addition, it is planned to upgrade two transport hubs. The Deputy Prime Minister said that within the framework of the program, tenders were held to identify contractors for the repair of 241 km of roads, tender procedures are ongoing for another 80 km, and the construction of the M-6 road (from the city of Vanadzor to the border with Georgia) is also progressing. Tigran Avinyan noted that the process of road restoration is going ahead of the established work schedule.
Note that in April of this year, the Armenian parliament ratified an agreement with the World Bank on the second, additional financing of the program for the restoration of vital roads. In May last year, the Board of Directors of the Bank approved additional funding for the program "restoration of the road network of vital importance" in the amount of 13.4 million euros. Resources will be provided through the structure of the World Bank - the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development. These funds will be used to additionally repair 61 km of vital roads in Aragatsotn, Ararat, Gegharkunik, Lori and Syunik regions. The loan is provided on a variable spread, with a grace period of 14.5 years with a total maturity of 25.5 years. The total cost of the program is estimated at ? 16.76 million, of which ? 3.35 million will be provided with government participation. The total length of the road section within the framework of additional financing will increase to 450 km, of which 299 km have already been restored.
