ArmInfo.The winners of the tenders for the modernization of the M-6 interstate highway (Vanadzor-Alaverdi-Georgian border) will receive an advance payment. The decision was made on September 10 at the meeting of the RA government.
As noted in the reference - the rationale for the draft decision, the tenders were held as part of the implementation of the road safety improvement program funded by the European Investment Bank, agreements with which were signed on November 27 and December 4, 2019. It is also envisaged to hold 2 more tenders in the third and fourth quarters of this year. Within the framework of the agreement, the EIB, in addition to a loan, will also provide Armenia with a grant for the improvement of a number of dangerous sections of the road. On February 19, 2020, the Road Department SNCO held tenders for three lots, each of which includes works on the improvement of three emergency sections. According to the results of the competitive procedures, agreements were signed with their winners. In particular, with "Arhovshin" LLC for the amount of 121 million drams, with "Araratchanshin" LLC for the amount of 265 million drams and with "Arhovshin" LLC for the amount of 145 million drams. In addition, in the third and fourth quarters of this year, it is planned to hold 2 more tenders, three lots each. The estimated cost of construction work to be carried out within the framework of the first tender will be 302 million drams, the second - 1.120 billion drams.
To ensure the customer's prepayment obligations, 661 million drams are required, which will be allocated from the Government's Reserve Fund. At the same time, it is envisaged to redistribute in the part of co- financing of the Republic of Armenia the program for the construction of the North-South road corridor, implemented with the support of the Asian Development Bank.
Earlier, ArmMnfo reported about attracting a $ 50 million loan from ADB to modernize a part of the M-6 road (Vanadzor - Alaverdi - Georgian border) with a length of almost 51.5 km. The implementation of the program will help resolve the issue of employment, improve the social situation, and provide assistance to agriculture and tourism. According to the previously ratified agreement, for the implementation of the project, Armenia will receive a loan in the amount of 102 million euros from the European Investment Bank. The program will be co-financed by the European Investment Bank and the Asian Development Bank. The goal of the program is to restore the 90 km long M-6 interstate highway from Vanadzor to Bagratashen. The restoration of the program is planned to be completed within 2-2.5 years. As part of the program, it is planned to expand the roadway, as well as make changes to some of its sections, improve safety and completely modernize the tunnel systems. This section of the road accounts for about 60% of the intensity of cargo transportation from Armenia.
