Armenia reduced export and import of diamonds

ArmInfo. In the first half of 2020, the volume of diamond exports from Armenia precipitated a rapid decline to 32.2% (from 17.7% a year earlier), while the customs  value decreased by 84.2%. According to the RA Customs Service, during  the reporting period, 68.6 thousand carats of diamonds were exported  at a customs value of $ 4.5 million, which decreased by 84.2% per  annum - to $ 4.5 million.

The volume of imports also dropped significantly - by 38.8% per annum  (against 58.6% growth a year earlier), amounting to 254.9 thousand  carats of rough diamonds worth $ 33.3 million (with a y-o-y decline  of 56.4%) .

The main export of polished diamonds from Armenia falls on the UAE  (86.3%), as well as Russia (10%), Belgium, Israel, and the USA. And  rough diamonds are imported to Armenia mainly from Hong Kong (73.7%),  as well as India (15.7%), UAE (2.3%), Canada (2%), Belgium (1.9%) ,  Thailand (0.9%).

According to the Statistical Committee of the Republic of Armenia, in  the first half of 2020, jewelry production in Armenia increased by  33.4% to 23.5 billion drams.
