ArmInfo. Armenia appreciates the support that the United Kingdom government has provided to the republic in recent years in realizing the goals of the economic policy of the RA government. On September 11 during a meeting with Charge d'Affaires of Great Britain in the Republic of Armenia Helen Fazey RA Minister of Economy Tigran Khachatryan said.
"We have implemented many interesting projects in the areas supported by the UK Good Governance Fund. They are especially related to improving the business environment and corporate governance," said Tigran Khachatryan the press service of the RA Ministry of Economy reports.
The Minister stressed that an Agreement on the Protection and Promotion of Investments was signed between Armenia and Great Britain, which has been in effect for over 23 years. According to him, however, the existing opportunities are not being used enough, and a lot of joint work is ahead in this regard. Among the sectors of economic cooperation, Tigran Khachatryan highlighted the increase in productivity and competitiveness, noting that the measures proposed by the UK to promote the use of advanced technologies in manufacturing can be very useful. According to the minister, some of the anti- crisis measures of the RA government are based on technological modernization and access to finance.
"The Ministry of Economy is a very important partner for us in terms of developing trade relations between Armenia and the United Kingdom and promoting the economic development of Armenia. The dialogue is further strengthened in the context of neutralizing the economic consequences of the coronavirus and ensuring further economic progress. We are looking for new opportunities for cooperation," Helen Fazey said.
She highly appreciated the programs implemented with the Ministry of Economy aimed at improving the business environment and strengthening economic ties, proposing in the future to include in joint projects and issues related to the green economy and climate change. Helen Fazey noted that she was impressed by the commitment of the Armenian officials to the implementation of the reform program.
The Minister, in turn, expressed the hope that the reforms carried out by the government, which relate to the reforms of the real business environment, the fight against corruption, will contribute to the inflow of investments to Armenia and the expansion of economic ties.
Touching upon the development of agriculture, the parties noted that further cooperation should be aimed at the effective use of the resources available in Armenia for the digitalization of agriculture. According to the diplomat, there is potential for the development of trade relations in this direction. From the point of view of the development of trade relations, the parties used the work done within the institutional framework of public-private partnerships, highlighting the successful experience of the UK in this area.
The Minister and Charge d'Affaires of Great Britain in the Republic of Armenia confirmed their readiness for purposeful and effective cooperation and agreed on further joint work.
