Armenian industry slows down due to prolonged downturn in  manufacturing

ArmInfo. For 9 months of 2020, the industrial sector of Armenia showed an increase of 1%, against growth of 9.7% in the same period of 2019. The slowdown in  the annual growth rate of the industry is due to the continuing  negative trend in the manufacturing sector.

According to the data of the Statistical Committee of the Republic of  Armenia, for the reporting period the volume of industrial production  in Armenia amounted to 1.4 trillion. drams ($ 2.9 billion). In  September 2020 alone, the industry grew by 3.1% with a volume of  190.3 billion drams ($ 391.1 million).

In January-September 2020 by the same period of 2019 in the mining  industry and the development of open pits, an increase was recorded  by 16.7% (against 19.5% growth a year earlier) - up to 291.7 billion.  drams.  In September alone, the mining sector provided the volume of  40.7 billion drams with a monthly decline of 2%.

The volume of the manufacturing industry decreased in  January-September by 2.7% per annum, against an increase of 9.3% to  936.4 billion drams, of which 127.7 billion drams fell in September  (7.6% monthly growth).

In the manufacturing industry, a decline in volumes in  January-September 2020 was recorded in textile production (by 39.5%),  printing activity (by 19.8%), cigarette production (by 19.7%),  machinery and equipment (by 11.7%). %), production of computers,  electrical and optical equipment (by 11.6%), beverages (by 10.8%),  jewelry (by 8.1%), rubber products (by 7.1%), food ( by 2.2%).

Growth was recorded in the production of finished metal products (by  31.4%), chemical industry (by 24.1%), pharmaceuticals (by 23.5%),  furniture (by 22.1%), electronic equipment (by 15.2%). ), other non-  metallic mineral products (by 12.3%), basic metals (by 12%) and  clothing (by 5.6%).

In the manufacturing industry, food products (321.3 billion drams),  cigarettes (106.8 billion), basic metals (152.3 billion) and  beverages (111.5 billion drams) are traditionally leading in terms of  production.  According to statistics, the supply of electricity, gas,  steam and conditioned air in general increased in January-September  2020 against the same period in 2019. by only 0.4% (against growth by  0.8% a year earlier) - to 188.8 billion drams. However, a 10.7%  decline was recorded in September to 19.8 billion drams. Moreover,  generation, transmission and distribution of electricity in  January-September increased by 0.2% per annum (with a decline of 1.6%  a year earlier), while gas production, distribution of gaseous fuels  through gas supply systems increased by 1.6% (with an increase of 13%  a year earlier).

Revenues from water supply, waste treatment and processing, and  production of secondary raw materials decreased in January-September  by 16.2% per annum (against 1.9% decline a year earlier) - to 16.1  billion drams, with a decline of 4.9 in September % secured by 1.9  billion drams. Moreover, the decline in this segment was mainly due  to the collection, processing and disposal of waste, the receipt of  secondary raw materials (annual decline by 65.8%).
