Birth rate growth in Armenia lags behind mortality growth rate

ArmInfo. 26 653 children were born in Armenia in January- September 2020. According to the Statistical Committee of the Republic of Armenia, the birth rate in  the country increased by 0.8% in y-o-y terms, and by 0.4% in a  two-year context. The birth rate per 1000 inhabitants at the end of  the reporting period was 12 ppm, against 11.9% in 2019 and a similar  level (12 ppm) two years earlier.

The highest birth rate was registered in the city of Yerevan, where  12,138 children were born during the reporting period. This is  followed by the Kotayk region, where the number of children born  exceeds 2,000.  In Ararat, Armavir, Shirak, Gegharkunik and Lori  regions, over 1,000 children were born. There are over 900 children  born in Aragatsotn and Syunik regions, while over 800 children were  born in Tavush. And the lowest birth rate was registered in Vayots  Dzor region, where only 318 children were born.

According to statistics, during the reporting period, 21,284 people  died in Armenia, with an annual growth of 8.7%, with an increase of  10.6% in 2 years. The mortality rate in the country was 9.6 ppm,  versus 8.8 ppm in the same period in 2019, and 8.7 ppm in 2018. The  absolute value of natural population growth was 5369 people, which is  21.8% less than a year ago, and in comparison with 2018 - by 26.6%.  The natural population growth rate was 2.4 per thousand, against 3.1  per thousand in the same period in 2019, and 3.3 per thousand in  2018. According to statistics, the population of Armenia as of  October 1, 2020 amounted to 2.967 million people, an increase in  y-o-y terms by 0.4% or 10.4 thousand people.
