ArmInfo.The volume of cargo transportation in Armenia in January-October 2020 to the same period in 2019 increased by 3.5% (against a decline of 51.1% a year earlier), to 12,271.5 thousand tons. Of these, 8,086.8 thousand tons (65.7% of the total) accounted for road transportation, which increased by 3.7% in y-o-y terms. This is evidenced by the data of the RA Statistical Committee.
According to the source, rail freight traffic during the reporting period increased by 3.9% - up to 2708.2 thousand tons. At the same time, air traffic decreased by 18.8% to 13.4 thousand tons. The main pipeline supplied 1,463.1 thousand tons of natural gas, which is 1.7% more than in the same period last year. Freight turnover decreased by 1% - to 3,752.7 million ton/km.
Passenger traffic for the reporting period decreased by 62.2% (against an increase of 4.6% a year earlier) - to 60 806.8 thousand people. In particular, road transportation decreased by 64.4% - to 48,509.4 thousand people, railway - by 30.7% to 257 thousand people, air - by 74.9% to 774.8 thousand people. Passenger transportation by electric transport also showed a downtrend, having decreased over the reporting period by 46.3% - to 11,265.6 thousand people. Passenger traffic decreased by 66.7% to 765.3 million passenger-km.
To recall, since March 16, 2020 until September 11, 2020 in connection with the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic, the Armenian government declared a state of emergency in the country, which negatively affected the tourism industry, since a number of restrictions were introduced related to the implementation of passenger transportation. As a result, in the first 9 months of 2020, the number of tourists coming to Armenia decreased by 77.5% in y-o-y terms, amounting to 327,735 people. While cargo transportation was carried out in normal mode, as evidenced by the data of the RA Statistical Committee.
