The Parliamentary Commission on Economic Affairs at a meeting on January 13 issued a positive opinion on amendments to the law "On licensing" and in a package of 7  laws. According to Deputy Minister of Economy of the Republic of  Armenia Varos Simonyan, the package takes into account the  obligations assumed by Armenia in international agreements. It, in  particular, is brought into compliance with the Paris Convention for  the Protection of Industrial Property, the World Intellectual  Property Organization, the Eurasian Patent Convention, and an  agreement on trade aspects of intellectual property rights. Issues  related to registration, protection and use of inventions will be  dealt with by an authorized state body, under which the Appeals Board  will operate. A patent for an invention will be issued to  organizations, individuals and individual entrepreneurs. At the same  time, the patent will be both short-term (for 10 years) and long-term  (for 20 years). For their registration on an international scale, an  international application will be required, which is submitted to the  state authority. If the ratified international treaties of the  Republic of Armenia contradict the norms of this Law, the norms of  the international treaties shall apply. Rights to an invention in the  territory of the Republic of Armenia are acquired and protected by a  patent issued in the manner prescribed by law. The rights arising  from the Eurasian patent are recognized and protected on the  territory of the Republic of Armenia in accordance with the Eurasian  Patent Convention. Legal protection of inventions in the Republic of  Armenia is carried out on the basis of documents of title issued in  accordance with this law, as well as on the basis of a Eurasian  patent.
