ArmInfo.The industrial sector of Armenia reduced production volumes in January-November 2020 by 0.2% (against an increase of 9.3% a year earlier), amounting to 1.8 trillion drams ($ 3.7 billion). According to the data of the Statistical Committee of the Republic of Armenia, such dynamics is due to the worsening trend in the manufacturing- from growth to decline, and a slowdown in the y-o-y growth rates of the mining sector.
However, in November 2020 alone industrial production in Armenia demonstrated an increase of 4%, providing a volume of 204.3 billion drams ($ 408.9 million). This was observed against the background of a monthly decline in the mining sector by 3.5%, while the manufacturing industry grew by 4.6%. According to the source, in January-November 2020 versus the same period of 2019 in the mining industry and the development of open pits, an increase of 12.7% was recorded (against an increase of 23.9% a year earlier) - up to 363.2 billion drams, of which 36.1 billion were registered in November. The volume of the manufacturing industry decreased in January-November by 3.4% per annum (against an increase of 8.2% a year earlier), amounting to 1.2 trillion drams, of which 143.5 billion drams fell on November.
In the manufacturing industry, a decline in volumes in January-November 2020 was recorded in the production of textiles (by 31% per annum), printing activities (by 21.9%), cigarettes (by 19.3%), beverages (by 15.4%), jewelry products (by 9.2%), rubber and plastic products (by 7%), computers, optical and electronic equipment (by 5%), machinery and equipment (by 4.3%) and food (by 0.9%). At the same time, growth in January-November 2020 was recorded in the production of finished metal products (by 27.5% per annum), electronic equipment (by 26.8%), pharmaceuticals (by 25.3%), furniture (by 16.8%), chemical industry (by 16.5%), basic metals (by 10.1%), other non-metallic mineral products (by 8%) and clothing (by 7.1%).
In the manufacturing industry, the leaders in terms of production are food (446.1 billion drams), basic metals (177.7 billion drams), beverages (142.7 billion drams), cigarettes (137 billion drams). According to statistics, the supply of electricity, gas, steam and air-conditioned air as a whole increased in January-November 2020 by 0.4% against the same period of 2019 (against a decline of 0.9% a year earlier) - to 231.5 billion drams. In November alone, an increase of 13.1% was recorded- up to 22.9 billion drams. Moreover, generation, transmission and distribution of electricity in January-November demonstrated an increase of 0.3% per annum, while gas production, distribution of gaseous fuel through gas supply systems increased by 1.1% per annum.
Revenues from water supply, waste treatment and processing and production of secondary raw materials decreased in January-November by 14.4% per annum (against 2.1% decline a year earlier) - to 19.7 billion drams, with a decline of 4.1% in November- up to 1.8 billion drams. Moreover, the downward trend in this segment was mainly due to the collection, processing and disposal of waste, the receipt of secondary raw materials, with a y-o-y decline of 62.8%.
To note, the average settlement rate of the dram to the US dollar was AMD 499.62 / $ 1 in November 2020, and AMD 486.29 / $ 1 in January-November 2020, against AMD 477.08 / $ 1 in November 2019 and 480.65 AMD / $ 1 in January-November 2019.
