Trade sector of Armenia continues to sink

In the trade sector of Armenia, the turnover in January-November 2020 against the same period of 2019 decreased by 13.5% (against growth by 9.2% a year  earlier), amounting to 2.5 trillion. drams ($ 5.1 billion). According  to the RA Statistical Committee, in November 2020 alone, the trade  turnover in Armenia increased by 1% (after a 13.4% decline in  October), amounting to 240.8 billion drams ($ 482 million).

In particular, wholesale trade in January-November 2019 showed an  annual decline of 9.4% - to 1.290 trillion. drams ($ 2.6 billion),  against growth by 11.5% a year earlier. On a monthly basis, the  wholesale trade turnover decreased by 0.1% - to 121.5 billion drams.

The volume of purchase / sale of cars in January-November 2020  accelerated the annual decline from 10.1% to 31.9%, amounting to 84.5  billion drams ($ 173.7 million). At the same time, in November alone,  the revenue of car trade increased by 48% - to 9.3 billion drams.

According to statistics, retail trade turnover in January-November  2020 amounted to 1.143 trillion. drams ($ 2.4 billion), having  decreased by 16.1% (against growth by 8.8% a year earlier). During  the month, the retail sales revenue dropped by 0.5% - to 110 billion  drams.

In the structure of retail trade, the largest turnover is provided by  shops (including supermarkets) - 80.8% or over 924 billion drams  (with an annual decline of 15.2%), other retail facilities - 12.4% or  142.1 billion drams (with an annual decline of 19%), followed by  consumer goods markets - 4% or 45.3 billion (with an annual decline  of 22.4%), stalls and kiosks - 1.8% or 20.8 billion . (with an annual  decline of 27.1%) and agricultural markets - 1% or 11.1 billion (with  an annual decline of 2.7%).

Wholesale trade dominates in the structure of the total trade  turnover of Armenia - 51.2%, with a small gap followed by retail  trade - 45.4%, and the share of purchase / sale of cars accounts for  only 3.4%.  Note that the average settlement rate of the dram to the  US dollar was 499.62 AMD / $ 1 in November 2020, and 486.29 AMD / $ 1  in January-November 2020, against 477.08 AMD / $ 1 in November 2019  and 480.65 AMD / $ 1 in January-November 2019
