A sharp drop in carpet production in 2020 caused a noticeable drop in  the indicators of light industry in Armenia

ArmInfo. The production volumes of the textile industry in 2020 settled by 31.6%, amounting to 974.8 million drams, against an increase of 15.9% in 2019, when in  absolute terms, it provided production volumes of 1.4 billion drams.

According to the Statistical Committee of Armenia, the main reason  for the drop in production in the industry was a sharp and  unprecedented drop in the production of carpets and carpet weaving  products - by 76.5% to 7.4 tons.

According to statisticians' data, in 2020 Armenian factories produced  19,277.4 thousand pairs of tights, leggings, socks and other hosiery,  which is 4.3% less than a year ago.

However, at the same time, the statistics on the production of  jumpers, pullovers, cardigans, jackets (vests) or similar products  (knitted or crocheted), of which 8,914.7 thousand pieces were  produced, with an annual growth of 31.3 %.

Positive dynamics was also observed in the production of fabrics, the  volume of which for the reporting period amounted to 15.4 tons, which  is 3.3 times higher than the indicator of a year ago.
