Population in  Armenia in 2020 increased by 0.1%

ArmInfo. The population of Armenia as of January 1, 2021 increased by 0.1% or 4.4 thousand people, amounting to 2.964.1 million people. This is evidenced by the  data of the RA Statistical Committee.

According to the source, the urban population as of the reporting  date was 1.896, 2 million people, which is 64% of the total number of  citizens, and 1.067.9 million people lived in the villages. or 36%.  The number of urban residents increased by 0.2% on an annual basis,  and rural residents - by 0.03%. At the same time, the population of  Yerevan for the same period increased by 0.7%, amounting to 1.092  million people, i.e.  36.8% of the total population of the country is  concentrated in the capital.

According to statistics, the most densely populated are the two  regions close to the capital - Armavir (264 thousand people) and  Ararat (256.7 thousand people). This is followed by: Kotayk (251.2  thousand), Shirak (231 thousand), Gegharkunik (227.4 thousand) and  Lori (212.6 thousand). As of the reporting date, 135.9 thousand,  124.5 thousand and 120.6 thousand people lived in Syunik, Aragatsotn  and Tavush, respectively, and the most sparsely populated region of  the country continues to be Vayots Dzor, where only 48.2 thousand  people live.
