Armenia`s foreign trade deficit reduced in January 2021 by 31.5% per  annum

Armenia's foreign trade deficit decreased in January 2021 by 31.5% per annum - to $ 90.7 million, against the background of a decline in exports by 11.3% and  imports by 19% - to $ 156.6 million and $ 247.3 million. According to  the data of Armenia's Statistical Committee, trade turnvoer of  Armenia decreased in January by 16.8% per annum, amounting to $ 403.9  million.

Moreover, with the EAEU countries, the deficit of Armenia's foreign  trade decreased significantly - by 48.6% per annum - to $ 39.3  million, as a result of an increase in exports by 19.3% with a  decline in imports by 26.2% - to $ 44.8 million and $ 84.1 million,  respectively. At the same time, the deficit of Armenia's foreign  trade with the EU countries decreased more modestly - by 14.6% per  annum - to $ 11.1 million, due to a significant decline in both  exports (by 36%) and imports (by 31.1%), which amounted to $ 27.7  million and $ 38.9 million, respectively.

Russia is the leader in terms of foreign trade turnover, exports and  imports. Next in the TOP-5 are:  in terms of foreign trade turnover -  China, Iran, Switzerland and Italy; for export - China, Switzerland,  Bulgaria and the USA; for imports - China, Iran, Italy and the USA.

And this is despite the decline in foreign trade turnover between  Armenia and Russia in January 2021 by 14.2% per annum - to $ 126.7  million, due to a decline in imports by 25.4% - to $ 83 million with  an increase in exports by 20.3% - to $ 43.7 mln.

The foreign trade turnover between Armenia and China increased in  January 2021 by 14.1% per annum - to $ 70.6 million, as a result of a  2.6-fold jump in exports - to $ 31.6 million, while imports fell by  21.6% - to $ 38.9 million. Foreign trade turnover with Iran increased  in January 2021 by only 1.3% per annum, due to a decline in export  volumes by 36.3%, while imports grew by 11.3%. The foreign trade  turnover between Armenia and Switzerland fell by 51.1% per annum in  January 2021, as a result of a similar decline in both exports (by  51.1%) and imports (by 51.2%). Foreign trade turnover between Armenia  and Bulgaria sank in January 2021 by 52.5% per annum, due to a  significant decline in exports (by 55.3%) with an increase in imports  by 17.8%. Foreign trade turnover between Armenia and Italy decreased  in January 2021 by 2.6% per annum against the background of a 4.8%  decline in imports and an increase in exports of 10.7%. Foreign trade  turnover between Armenia and the United States jumped 56.9% per annum  in January 2021 thanks to a jump in imports by 84.3% and a less  significant growth in exports by 34.8%.

Of these leading five, Switzerland and Bulgaria have a positive  foreign trade balance, and in both cases this indicator is in decline  - by 51.1% and 58.6% per annum, respectively. And the rest of the  deficit of foreign trade increased in Iran, decreased in Russia,  China and Italy, and in the United States, the positive level changed  to negative.

In total, among the trading partner countries of Armenia, the largest  decline in foreign trade turnover in January 2021 was recorded in  Cyprus - by 91.3% due to almost zero exports with a decline in  imports by 92%.
