Trade sector of Armenia dropped by 15.1% in January 2021

ArmInfo.Trade turnover in Armenia in January 2021 to the same period in 2020 decreased by 15.1% against growth by 10.3% a year earlier, amounting to 187 billion  drams ($ 358.6 million).

According to the Statistical Committee of the Republic of Armenia,  this trend is due to a sharp change from a positive trend to a  negative one in retail, wholesale and car trade.  In particular,  wholesale trade in January showed an annual decline of 12.1% - to  89.1 billion drams, against an increase of 8.8% a year earlier.

The volume of purchase / sale of cars in January decreased by 50.3% y  / y, against growth by 33.2% a year earlier, amounting to 4.9 billion  drams.

And the retail trade turnover in January 2021 against the same period  of 2020 decreased by 14.7% (against an increase of 10.1%), amounting  to 92.9 billion drams.

In the structure of retail trade, the largest turnover is provided by  stores (including supermarkets) - 76.3% or 70.8 billion drams (with  an annual decline of 15.5%), other retail facilities - 15.8% or 14.7  billion drams (with an annual decline of 8.6%), followed by consumer  goods markets - 5.2% or 4.8 billion (with an annual decline of  14.6%), stalls and kiosks - 1.8% or 1.6 billion (with an annual  decline of 34.4%) and agricultural markets - 0.9% or 851.4 million  (with an annual growth of 11.9%).  In the structure of the total  trade turnover of Armenia in January 2020, retail trade dominates -  49.7%, the share of wholesale is 47.6%, and the remaining 2.7% falls  on the purchase / sale of cars.  The average calculated AMD exchange  rate was 521.20 AMD / $ 1 in January 2021, against 479.21 AMD / $ 1  in January 2020.
