ArmInfo.Opportunities for the participation of the Asian Development Bank in the implementation of the economic policy of Armenia were discussed today during the meeting of the Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Tigran Avinyan with the Director of the Armenian office of ADB Paolo Spantigati.
The Deputy Prime Minister outlined the priorities of the economic policy of the Armenian government. In this context, the parties discussed the possibilities of cooperation in the fields of infrastructure, in particular transport, energy, urban environment and human resources. During the discussion, options for expanding cooperation in the areas of communications and transport hubs were also touched upon. Tigran Avinyan presented the economic response program adopted by the Armenian government, as well as the priorities set by the latter: the restoration of economic activity, ensuring the stability of the economic environment, developing a medium-term economic policy agenda. The Deputy Prime Minister expressed hope that the government of the Republic of Armenia will deepen cooperation with ADB within the framework of the economic response program. At the same time, he highlighted the technical assistance provided by ADB in the digitization of the inventory and in the standardization of national geospatial data. To note. in August last year, the Asian Development Bank provided Armenia with $ 2 million for the implementation of the grant program for responding to COVID-19.
Armenia joined ADB in 2005 and is included in the group of countries with mixed (concessional and conventional) financing. ADB works to reduce poverty in the Asia-Pacific region by fostering economic growth and regional integration. In the transport sector, ADB continues to assist Armenia in the construction of the North-South transport corridor, as well as in strengthening transport links between cities with high levels of poverty.
