Armenia increased imports of wheat in 2020, reducing the volume of  flour supplies

ArmInfo. In 2020, Armenia increased wheat imports by 40% - up to 350.5 thousand tons, demonstrating growth in value terms - by 43.4% - up to $ 72.4 million. The main  importer of wheat is the Russian Federation (99.1%).

The export of wheat increased several-fold from 15.3 tons to 64.1  tons, with a 3-fold increase in customs value to $ 33.6 thousand.  Wheat exports from Armenia fell to Russia (41.5%), the USA (35.5%),  France (15.9%), Belgium (5.6%).

According to customs data, imports of wheat flour to Armenia  decreased by 6.8% - to 20.9 thousand tons, and in value terms - by  9.9% - to $ 5.6 million. The main importer of wheat flour to Armenia  is also the Russian Federation (99,3%).

At the same time, Armenia exported 26.1 tons of wheat flour, which is  2.6-fold more than a year ago. The customs value also jumped  significantly - 3.7 -fold to $ 16.2 thousand. The lion's share of  exports (86.2%) fell on the Russian market, and the remaining volume  was distributed between the United States (13%) and Lebanon (0.8%).

The volume of imported grain also decreased - by 3% to 5 thousand  tons, with an increase in customs value by 50.1% to $ 3.5 million.  Armenia mainly imported grain from the Russian Federation (90.5%),  and the rest came from Brazil (5,1%), France (1.7%), Ukraine (0.7%),  Argentina (0.6%), USA, (0.3%).  The volume of grain exported from  Armenia amounted to 144.8 tons, having increased by 3.1 times in  2020, and jumped in value terms by 2.5 times to $ 79.8 thousand. The  main grain export markets were the Russian Federation (61.7%) and the  USA (38.3%).  According to the Statistical Committee of the Republic  of Armenia, flour production in Armenia in 2020 increased by 13% - up  to 199.6 thousand tons.

It should be noted that, according to previously available data, the  dominant position in the wheat and flour market is occupied by the  Alex-Grig company (owned by the family of the Armenian oligarch, MP  Samvel Aleksanyan), which accounts for over 42% of the market, and  the company is also a major player. " Manana Grain "- over 36%. Thus,  "Alex-Grig" and "Manana Grain" provide about 80% of the domestic  market of Armenia. Manana Grain LLC is also one of the largest grain  importers to Armenia (over 34% of the market).
