ArmInfo. Armenia is a window to international markets. This was stated by head of the Iran-Armenia Joint Chamber of Commerce Hervik Yarijanian, speaking of the country's ability to increase trade with Europe and Eurasia.
"If it were not for the spread of the coronavirus, Iran's economic activity in the region could have increased significantly," he said.
Hervik Yarijanian said the coronavirus acted as a deterrent to expanding trade relations. "In addition to the outbreak of this virus, Iran's banking situation in the world was another obstacle to expanding trade relations, because, on the one hand, we have adopted the FATF, and we do not use all the advantages of Swift, and, on the other hand, as a result, financial transactions are difficult, " Yarijanian pointed out. "Only these conditions can increase trade between the two countries, so we can use the territory of Armenia as a window to other countries," he said.
To note, according to the RA Statistical Committee, in January-February 2021 Iran took the third position in Armenia's foreign trade turnover - $ 58.4 million, despite the deterioration of the y-o-y dynamics from 42.5% growth to 0.3% decline. In particular, the volume of exports of Armenian goods to Iran amounted to $ 7.2 million, with a deterioration in y-o-y dynamics from an increase of 2.5 times to a 45.7% decline, and imports of goods from Iran - $ 51.2 million (3rd position) with a slowdown in growth from 26.9% to 13%.
