Passenger traffic in Armenia deepens into recession amid accelerated  growth in freight traffic

ArmInfo.The volume of freight traffic in Armenia in the first quarter of 2021 accelerated the annual growth from 2.6% to 9.1%, amounting to 3,193 thousand tons.

Of these, 58.6% or 1,871.3 thousand tons are accounted for by road  transport, the dynamics of which came out of a 4.8% decline by 17.5%  growth. This is stated in the report of the RA Statistical Committee.   According to statistics, rail freight transportation for the  reporting period decreased by 4.9% - to 676 thousand tons, air - by  27.3% - to 3.2 thousand tons. The main pipeline supplied 642.5  thousand tons of natural gas, which is 3.7% more than a year ago.

At the same time, passenger traffic during the reporting period  accelerated the annual decline from 16.2% to 40.6%, amounting to 22  604.6 thousand people. Automobile passenger transportation decreased  by 45.9% - to 17,479 thousand people, air - by 54.9% - to 271  thousand people, passenger transportation by electric transport - by  5.2% - to 4776.9 thousand people. At the same time, railway passenger  traffic increased by 4.6% - up to 7.7 thousand people.

As a result, cargo turnover increased in the first quarter of 2021 by  4.3% per annum - to 1,372.2 million ton/km, while passenger turnover,  on the contrary, decreased by 39.1% per annum - to 300.8 million  passenger/km.
