Natural population growth in Armenia decreased by 17% in the first  quarter of 2021

ArmInfo.In Armenia, in the first quarter of 2021, 8,583 children were born, which is 13.3% higher than a year ago, and by 7.9% compared to the same period in 2019.   According to the Statistical Committee of the Republic of Armenia,  the birth rate per 1000 inhabitants for the reporting period amounted  to 11.7 ppm, against 10.3 ppm a year earlier and 10.9 ppm two years  ago.

 The highest birth rate was registered in the city of Yerevan,  where 3903 children were born during the reporting period. They are  followed by the regions of Kotayk, Gegharkunik, Shirak and Lori,  where over 600 children were born. There are over 500 children born  in Ararat and Armavir regions. Over 300 children were born in Syunik,  over 200 in Aragatsotn and Tavush. And the lowest birth rate is  traditionally registered in Vayots Dzor region - 95 children.

According to statistics, 8,343 people died in Armenia during the  reporting period, which is 14.5% higher than the indicator of a year  ago, and in the two-year context, the growth was 14.2%. The mortality  rate in the country increased in the first quarter of 2021 from 9.9  ppm to 11.4 ppm, against 10 two years earlier.  The absolute value of  natural population growth was 240 people, having decreased in annual  terms by 17%.  The natural population growth rate decreased during  the reporting period from 0.4 to 0.3 ppm, against 0.9 ppm two years  earlier.

According to statistics, the population of Armenia by April 1, 2021  amounted to 2.964 million people, an increase in annual terms by 0.2%  or 7 thousand people.
