First floating solar power plant to be built in Armenia

First floating solar power plant to be built in Armenia

ArmInfo. The " Armenia Renewable Resources and Energy Efficiency Fund " together with the French company "Trans Energy" applied to the government of France and  received a grant for the construction of the first floating solar  station in the Republic of Armenia.

Director of the Fund Karen  Asatryan stated this on May 7, presenting the plans of the field for  2021.  According to Asatryan, within the framework of this project,  "studies will be carried out to study the suitability of water  resources for the construction of a floating solar station." The  first floating solar power plant with an installed capacity of 151 kW  will be built. The implementation of this project will become the  next stage in the development of the solar energy sector, the expert  noted.  In general, according to him, by 2030 the volume of planned  investments in the field of solar energy will reach $ 600 million,  and in the field of wind energy - 500 million. At the same time, he  found it difficult to indicate the amount of funds raised in the  energy supply sector.

At the same time, Asatryan recalled that in 2017, a program on energy  saving was launched in Armenia in the non-gasified communities of the  republic. Thus, funds were allocated for the purchase of 3400 water  heaters for 37 thousand households in 180 non-gasified communities.  With funding from the Fund, solar power plants with a capacity of  about 1 MW were installed. "It was decided to continue the program in  other, even gasified communities of Armenia," he said.

Since 2016, Armenia has implemented a pilot energy saving program in  about 180 public and state buildings. "Experience has shown that  50-60% efficiency can be ensured by energy saving measures," the head  of the Fund said. The Fund received a grant of $ 1.7 million from the  Eurasian Development Bank, which will be spent on thermal insulation  works for 20 public buildings.
