ArmInfo. Integration programs like financing the renewal of the rolling stock of the South Caucasus Railway are a priority for the Eurasian Development Bank (EDB). EDB Director for the Republic of Armenia Armen Melkikyan stated this in an interview with ArmInfo correspondent.
Thus, referring to the Bank's participation in the project for the renewal of passenger cars for South Caucasus Railways and the prospects for new projects with the company, Melkikyan confirmed that indeed, this project, according to their mandate, falls within all parameters. "Of course, there is a great desire to continue our cooperation with the SCR. The main thing is that a good start has been made," said the EDB representative in Armenia.
Clarifying whether the EDB is considering the possibility of participating in projects aimed at unblocking regional communications, including in the field of railway communications, Melkikyan noted that if the need arises, the Bank will most likely consider the possibility of participating in such projects. Integration projects within the Eurasian Economic Union, which are a priority for the country, are also a priority for the EDB, "the Bank's representative said.
Answering the question whether the EDB plans to implement new projects in Armenia, which have not yet been announced, Melkikyan stated that in addition to existing projects to support banks and other financial institutions, as well as the country's largest Zangezur Copper-Molybdenum Combine, in 2021 undoubtedly, new projects with large banks are planned. “As for the real sector of the economy, the project with the SCR is the first and very important after the coronavirus pandemic. We also plan to actively participate in financing integration digital initiatives, "the EDB representative in Yerevan said, adding that this is a new direction for the Bank. According to him, active work is now underway to study potential new projects.
