ArmInfo. Under the World Bank program "Development of Local Economy and Infrastructures", an 18 km long road connecting the Ararat and Kotayk regions (Garni- Lanjazat) has been repaired, which is of great tourism importance. According to  the official statement of the government, about 2 billion drams were  allocated for the implementation of road works on this section, which  connects the following tourist destinations such as Garni, Khor  Virap, Dvin and the Azat reservoir.

It is reported that the asphalting has already been completed, but  over the next months, work is expected to ensure the safety and  long-term operation of the road section. According to the source, the  road, which has not been repaired since Soviet times, will  significantly ease the congested traffic in Yerevan, and will provide  an opportunity to bypass the North-South road. The next object for  road works under this program will be, according to the RA  government, the tourist destinations of Jermuk, where about 3 billion  drams will be directed.

Note that the project is being implemented within the framework of  the "Development of Local Economy and Infrastructures" program  financed by the World Bank. The total cost of the program is $ 68.7  million, which provides for the improvement of urban and rural  communities, historical and cultural areas, the creation of tourist  service centers, tourist routes, accessibility, and technical  assistance. The program is designed to play a special rol;e in the  issue of developing regional tourism potential.
