The issue was discussed during a meeting between Armenia's acting Minister of Economy Vahan Kerobyan and an Iranian delegation led by Mehdi Eliassi, Vice President for Science and Technology, which also comprised Deputy Minister of Communications, Chairman of the Information Technology Organization Amir Nazemi Ashani, members of the Iranian Parliament, representatives of a number of large Iranian companies.
The delegation was in Armenia to participate in the Armenian-Iranian business forum. Referring to the results of the Armenian-Iranian business forum, the members of the delegation pointed to the high interest of Iranian companies in cooperation with the Armenian side in a number of areas - in industry, construction, agriculture, pharmaceuticals, food, textile industries, in the production of medical equipment. At the same time, given Armenia's membership in the EAEU, the parties discussed the possibilities of organizing joint ventures in various sectors of the economy and exporting finished products to the Eurasian and other markets.
In addition, the Iranian side expressed its readiness to cooperate with medical institutions of Armenia in terms of equipping the latter with Iranian equipment. In addition, the parties discussed issues related to cooperation in the pharmaceutical field. The members of the delegation also suggested exploring the possibilities of creating a "smart" city through joint efforts.
In turn, Kerobyan noted that the Armenian-Iranian agenda is a priority for the Ministry of Economy. "To increase the effectiveness of bilateral cooperation, it is necessary to bring to its logical conclusion and implement all joint projects," he said. To recall, yesterday, Head of the Trade Promotion Organization of Iran (TPOI) Hamid Zadboom and Deputy Minister of Economy of Armenia Varos Simonyan discussed issues on removing obstacles to the development of trade and economic relations between the two countries. "Iran's Trade Promotion Organization is ready to hold meetings within the framework of the Joint Industrial, Mining and Commercial Working Group to identify the obstacles facing bilateral trade and make appropriate and effective solutions to remove them," Zadboom said.
At the same time, he called the elimination of non-tariff barriers and the reduction of logistics and transport costs an important factor in increasing the volume of trade between the two countries.
To note, according to the RA Statistical Committee, the foreign trade turnover between the RA and the IRI in January-April 2021, increased by 35.1%, amounting to $ 136.5 million. In particular, the volume of exports decreased by 19.2% - to $ 22.5 million, with an increase in imports by 55.7% - to $ 114 million.
