In Q1 2021, unemployment rate in Armenia decreased to 17% from 19.7%  a year earlier

ArmInfo. In Q1 2021, the unemployment rate in Armenia decreased to 17% from 19.7% in Q1 2020 (against 21.5% in the same period of 2019). This is evidenced by the  data of the RA Statistical Committee.

At the same time, according to statistics, the employment rate in the  country increased in the Q1 2021 to 46.6% from 45.1% in Q1 2020  (against 44.9% in the same period of 2019). According to the source,  as of April 1, 2021, the number of employed population reached 943.8  thousand people (with a decline of 0.2%), and there were 193 thousand  unemployed people as of the reporting date, which is 17.1% less than  a year ago.

More recent data - for May 2021, indicate that 90.4 thousand people  were in search of job, of which more than 62 thousand people were  unemployed, and according to both indicators, y-o-y growth was  recorded by 4.1% and 2%, respectively. Moreover, there are much more  women among job seekers - 59 thousand (with a y-o-y growth of 3.8%)  than men - 31.3 thousand (with a y-o-y growth of 4.6%). And the same  situation among the unemployed people: there are 40.2 thousand women  (with a y-o-y growth of 0.7%), and- 21.7 thousand men  (with a y-o-y  growth of 4.5%).

In May 2021, the demand from employers for labor decreased by 36.4%  per annum - to 1,910 people, which in turn significantly increased  the load on 1 vacancy - 1.6-fold to 47 people. In the reporting  month, 779 citizens managed to find a job (a y-o-y growth of  1.3-fold) or 0.9% of the total number of job seekers.  Of the number  of people employed: 274 are men y-o-y growth 1.4-fold), and 505  -women (y-o-y growth 1.3-fold).  

To note, according to the forecast of the Central Bank of Armenia for  2021, updated in June, the unemployment rate in Armenia will decrease  to 17.9% (from the actual 18.1% in 2020), and in the medium term,  will approach 17.2%, decreasing by 0.3-0.4 percentage points per  annum. And the World Bank, in its March updated forecast, indicated  that the poverty rate among the widest segment of the insecure  residents in Armenia, who are able to spend no more than $ 5.5 per  day on themselves daily, will amount to 48.3% in 2021 (against an  estimated 51.7%). % in 2020) and will decrease to 45% in 2022.
