ArmInfo. Armenia has already managed to export 105 thousand tons of agricultural products, which is 2 times more than a year ago. Deputy Minister of Economy Arman Khojoyan announced this. In particular, he noted that out of the total volume of exported agricultural products, 44 thousand tons are fruits and berries, and 61 thousand tons are vegetables.
In this context, Khojoyan pointed to the high growth in exports for a number of crops. So, according to him, according to the situation at the moment, the volume of potatoes exported by Armenia amounted to 29 thousand tons, against 9.5 thousand tons for the whole of 2020, and 39 thousand for the whole of 2019. He noted that such indicators were achieved due to high demand in the Eurasian market.
Khojoyan also included apricots among the most demanded products here. According to him, currently Armenia has already exported 25 thousand tons of apricots, while for the whole of 2020 19.7 thousand tons were supplied to export markets, and for the whole of 2019 - 31.4 thousand tons. "That is, we have already exceeded the indicator of 2020, and I do not exclude that we will exceed the export volumes of apricot in 2019," the deputy minister said. At the same time, he pointed to the high potential for exporting agricultural products to the markets of the EAEU countries, where a deficit of 8 million tons of fruit and vegetable crops was registered, which is satisfied by third countries.
According to Khojoyan, Armenia also has the opportunity to significantly expand the export of berries and flowers.
In particular, he noted that in the countries of the Persian Gulf, namely in Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, there is a great demand for these products at high prices. "We need to work a lot in this direction," the official said, noting the need for an air cargo for this.
In this vein, he touched upon the plans of the National postal service operator "Haypost" CJSC , which is taking steps in this direction. "This will certainly help us diversify export markets," Khojoyan said.
