Armenian Regulator excludes cartel agreement in liquefied gas market

ArmInfo. The liquefied gas market is competitive, and the rise in prices is associated with an increase in demand. Ani Smbatyan, press secretary of the Competition ProtectionCommission (CPC) of Armenia, wrote about this on her Facebook page.

It should be noted that lately the price of liquefied gas has sharply  increased in Armenia - from 180-190 drams to 250-260 drams (about 50  cents). Experts attribute this to increased demand and monopolies.   Meanwhile, according to a CPC representative, the rise in prices is  due to processes in the global liquefied gas market, in particular,  the weakening of restrictions due to the pandemic, as well as  seasonality, which led to an increase in demand.

According to Smbatyan, the staff of the Commission held talks with  importing companies, who said that purchase prices have increased,  there are logistics problems, and measures are being taken to resolve  them.  "As of July 22, the retail price for liquefied gas in Russia  was 185-220 drams, in Georgia - 220-250 drams, in Turkey - 275 drams.  In France - 500 drams, in Ukraine - 288 drams, in Pakistan - 660  drams," she said.

Smbatyan stressed that more than 50 economic entities work in the  sector. "According to preliminary studies, there are no companies  among them that have a dominant position in the market, and therefore  they cannot have a decisive influence on the general conditions of  the sphere, including prices," wrote a CPC representative.
