Armenia`s industrial sector accelerated growth in the H1 2021

ArmInfo. The industrial sector of Armenia in H1 2021 increased production volumes by 2.1% (against 1.5% growth a year earlier), exceeding 1 trillion drams (about $ 2  billion). According to the data of the Statistical Committee of the  Republic of Armenia, in June alone, the industry showed a decline of  0.9% to 195.8 billion drams ($ 381.6 million).

In particular, in the mining industry and open pit development, a  y-o-y growth of 7.2% was recorded (against 24.3% growth in the  previous year) - up to 299.5 billion drams. And in June alone, the  mining industry showed an increase of 2.3% - up to 62.6 billion  drams.

The volume of the manufacturing industry in H1 2021 slowed down the  rate of annual decline from 3.6% to 1.1%, to 589.9 billion drams,  with a monthly decline of 0.3% - to 111.9 billion drams.

The decline in the manufacturing industry was provoked mainly by a  decrease in the production of jewelry (by 55.4%), finished metal  products (by 45.9%), printing activities (by 30.6%), cigarettes (by  18, 7%), basic metals (17.8%), beverages (16.8%) and chemical  industry (12.8%). At the same time, significant growth was recorded  in the production of textiles (3.2-fold), machinery and equipment (by  77.9%), electrical equipment (by 59%), computers and electrical and  optical equipment (by 40.7%), clothing (by 39.6%), other non-metallic  products (by 31.5%), rubber products (by 24.2%), as well as in the  production of furniture (by 6.2%), food (by 3.3%) and pharmaceuticals  (by 2%).

In the manufacturing industry, the leaders in terms of production are  food (209.3 billion drams), beverages (83.8 billion drams), basic  metals (81.6 billion), cigarettes (59.4 billion drams).

According to statistics, the supply of electricity, gas, steam and  conditioned air in general increased in H1 2021 to the same period of  2020 by 9.5% (against a 0.5% decline a year earlier) - up to 136.4  billion drams, with monthly decline by 1.8% to 19.2 billion drams.  Moreover, generation, transmission and distribution of electricity  for the reporting period increased by 9.8% per annum, and gas  production, distribution of gaseous fuel through gas supply systems -  by 7.7%.

Incomes from water supply, waste treatment and processing and  production of secondary raw materials for the reporting period  increased by 5.6% per annum (against a 20.9% decline a year earlier)  - up to 10.6 billion drams. On monthly a term, this segment showed a  decline of 14.3% to 2.1 billion drams. Moreover, the upward y-o-y  dynamics in this segment was mainly due to the collection, treatment  and distribution of water and wastewater treatment - by 6.1% and  6.8%, respectively.

The average calculated AMD exchange rate in June 2021 amounted to  513.09 AMD / $ 1, and in January- June 2021 - 522.08 AMD / $ 1,  against 481.27 AMD / $ 1 in June 2020 and 483.50 AMD / $ 1 in  January- June 2020
