ArmInfo. In Armenia, in the first half of 2021, the absolute value of natural population growth was 584 people, decreasing by 57.7% year on year, and by 74.6% compared to 2019. The rate of natural growth of the population decreased during the reporting period from 1 to 0.4 ppm, against 1.6 ppm two years earlier.
According to the data of the Statistical Committee, during the reporting period, 17,211 children were born in the country, which is 8.9% higher than a year ago, and by 7.4% compared to the same period in 2019. The birth rate per 1000 inhabitants for the reporting period amounted to 11.7 ppm, against 10.8 ppm a year earlier and 10.9 ppm two years ago.
The highest birth rate was registered in the city of Yerevan, where 8277 children were born during the reporting period. They are followed by Ararat, Armavir, Kotayk, Gegharkunik, Shirak and Lori, where over 1000 children were born. There are over 600 children born in Syunik and Aragatsotn. 500 children were born in Tavush. And the lowest birth rate is traditionally registered in Vayots Dzor region - 193 children. According to statistics, during the reporting period, 16 627 people died in Armenia, which is 15.3% higher than a year ago, and in a two-year context, the growth was 21.2%. The mortality rate in the country increased in the first half of 2021 to 11.3 ppm from 9.8 ppm in the first half of 2020 and 9.3 ppm in the first half of 2019.
According to statistics, the population of Armenia by July 1, 2021 amounted to 2.965 million people, having increased in annual terms by only 0.1% or 1.6 thousand people.
