Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructures Gnel Sanosyan discussed with Asset Assavbayev, Secretary General of the Intergovernmental Commission of the Transport Corridor Europe-Caucasus-Asia (TRACECA),the possibilities of deepening regional economic cooperation with the TRACECA organization, in the context of developing transport links between Armenia and the countries of the region, including Central Asia.
According to the press service of the ministry, Gnel Sanosyan expressed confidence that within the framework of the TRACECA program there are good opportunities for the further development of regional transport communication, stressing in this vein Armenia's readiness to implement them. In turn, the Secretary General presented to the Minister the priorities of the Europe-Caucasus-Asia transport corridor program, as well as current and future initiatives. In particular, Asset Assavbayev emphasized the importance of introducing a digital integrated platform for organizing transit cargo transportation in the
TRACECA member countries, a system of unified transit permits. He also touched upon the initiative to unify a number of technical standards, simplify border crossing procedures, which aim to simplify the transport process and reduce costs, as well as increase the overall efficiency and attractiveness of the corridor programs. The head of the Organization also presented the investment and institutional and technical assistance programs implemented in the framework of cooperation with the European Union.
According to the report, the TRACECA Secretary General also held a meeting with Permanent Representative of the Republic of Armenia to TRACECA Armen Simonyan. During the conversation, the parties discussed the possibilities of expanding cooperation between Armenia and the Organization.
It should be noted that TRACECA is an internationally recognized program aimed at the development of economic relations, trade and transport links in the regions of the Black Sea basin, the South Caucasus and Central Asia, thanks to active actions based on the political will and common aspirations of all participating countries. In September 1998, 12 TRACECA countries signed the "Basic Multilateral Agreement on International Transport for the Development of the Europe-Caucasus-Asia Corridor" (MLA) in order to fully realize their geopolitical and economic potential. In 2009, the Islamic Republic of Iran joined the TRACECA Program. Today the international transport corridor TRACECA includes the transport system of 13 countries- participants of the Basic multilateral agreement on international transport for the development of the corridor Europe-Caucasus-Asia (MLA TRACECA): Azerbaijan, Armenia, Bulgaria, Georgia, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Romania , Tajikistan, Turkey, Ukraine, Uzbekistan.
