ArmInfo. One of the most reputable airlines, Lufthansa, is returning to the Armenian market. From 2005 to 2008, the company carried out flights here in the direction of Munich-Yerevan-Munich. However, due to a decrease in demand for this flight Lufthansa left the Armenian market. This was announced during a press conference on August 12 by Lufthansa Group Management Director Rene Koinzack.
"Recently, we have noticed that the demand for flights to Armenia is growing in Europe. Therefore, we decided to return to the Armenian market, "he said, noting that the airlines of the Lufthansa group, in particular, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, have been operating in Armenia for many years, and recently EuroWings has expanded the airspace of Armenia.
Lufthansa, in his words, will start operating in Armenia from August 13 from the Frankfruit-Yerevan- Frankfruit flight, which will be operated three times a week (on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays). In general, weekly flights from Armenia will be carried out in 16 directions. One of the interesting flights, according to Koinzack, will be Los Angeles, Tokyo, Beijing and almost all European destinations. He also said that there is free Wi-Fi on board the company's aircraft, as well as the opportunity to fly in business class.
Speaking about the tariff policy, Koinzack noted that Lufthansa's air fares are quite competitive. "Prices start at $ 399 (round trip), but it all depends on the direction chosen," he said.
In turn, the director of "Armenia International Airports" OJSC Marcelo Wende noted that from now on, about 280 Lufthansa destinations in more than 100 countries of the world will be available for Armenian citizens. "None of the airlines operating in Armenia offers anything like this. The appearance of Lufthansa on our market will increase the flow of tourists to our country and will have a positive effect on the country's economy, "he stressed. In turn, Lufthansa's Sales Director in Central, Eastern and South-Eastern Europe, Peter Pullem noted that 534 out of 700 aircraft of the company are operated today, and the geography of flights covers 275 destinations. He also said that the company's attention is focused on 3 main areas: investing in new technologies, improving infrastructures and reducing carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere. Let us recall that Lufthansa is the flagship airline of Germany, the largest aviation concern in Europe, which also includes such large airlines as Swiss International Airlines and Austrian Airlines, etc. For example, Austrian Airlines has been operating flights from Vienna to Yerevan for the past 20 years, Brussels Airlines offer 5 flights a week from Brussels to Yerevan. Lufthansa is also a co-founder of the world's oldest and largest aviation alliance, Star Alliance, established in 1997. On July 15, it was reported that Lufthansa, as a result of lengthy negotiations, made a decision on August 13 of this year to enter the Armenian market. It should be noted that according to the Statistical Committee of Armenia, in the first half of 2021, 239,263 tourists visited Armenia, which is 22.2% less than a year ago. At the same time, 1,926 tourists from Germany arrived in Armenia during the reporting period (with an annual growth of 14.8%).
