Volume of dollar transactions in foreign exchange interbank of Armenia decreased by 14.2% on August 23- 27, 2021

ArmInfo. In the foreign exchange interbank of Armenia, from August 23 to August 27 2021, the volume of dollar transactions decreased by 14.2%, after growing by 45.2% in the previous week (from August 16 to August 20).

 

At the same time, dollar and euro transactions in the intrabank foreign exchange market declined in the reporting week, and in ruble transactions, the slowdown in sales growth was accompanied by a reversal of the buying trend towards the decline. The exchange currency platform has been idle for the fourth year already.

 

As a result, the dram began to devalue against the dollar from August 23 to August 27 2021 - from 490.3 to 493.3 AMD / $ 1, and also devalued against the euro - from 572.5 to 579.5 AMD / 1 EUR, while it"froze" agains the ruble at the level of 6.7 AMD / 1 RUB. A year earlier, on August 27, 2020, the AMD exchange rate against the dollar was 487 AMD / $ 1, against the euro - 577.5 AMD / 1 EUR, and against the ruble - 6.5 AMD / 1 RUB, which, in comparison with the current exchange rates, indicates the y-o-y devaluation of the dram against the dollar, euro and ruble.

 

As the press service of the RA Central Bank told ArmInfo, transactions in the foreign exchange market from August 23 to August 27 amounted to $ 9.1 million at an average rate of 494.52 AMD / $ 1 (against 492.75 AMD / $ 1 in the previous week). Moreover, in the reporting week, the foreign exchange interbank, having worked actively every day, highlighted the maximum volume on Wednesday - $ 2.3 million, and a slightly smaller equal volume on Monday, Thursday and Friday - $ 2.1 million each.

 

In parallel with this, on the intrabank foreign exchange market from August 23 to August 27 in comparison with the previous period (August 16-20), the trend of buying and selling dollars reversed from an upward 12-11.2% to a downward 24.2-5.8%, the same reversal in dynamics was observed in the purchase and sale of euros from an increase of 2.3-2.2-fold to a 64.3-38.6% decline, and in ruble transactions, a slowdown in sales growth from 15.4% to 6.7% was accompanied by a change in the buying trend from 16.7% growth to 14.3% decline.

 

As a result, during the reporting period, $ 85.4 million was purchased at an average rate of 489.37 AMD / $ 1, 13.5 million euros at an average rate of 573.37 AMD / 1EUR, and 1.8 billion rubles, at an average rate of 6.61 AMD / 1RUB, and sold $ 92.5 million at an average rate of 494.05 AMD / $ 1, 21.2 million euros at an average rate of 581.35 AMD / 1EUR, and 1.6 billion rubles, at an average rate of 6.69 AMD / 1RUB.

 

According to the source, from August 16 to August 22 2021. Armenian banks issued AMD 52.3 billion in AMD loans and $ 38.3 million in USD loans. Compared to the previous period (August 9-15), the trend in the volume of issued AMD and USD loans reversed from 23.6- 55.7% growth.

 

To note, in H1 2021, the RA Central Bank made interventions in the foreign exchange market for a total of $ 163.3 million, of which $ 156.3 million was for sale (in January, March and April) and $ 7 million for purchase (in June). During this period, the selling rate increased from 523.86 AMD / $ 1 in January to 530.06 AMD / $ 1 in April (versus 522.98 AMD / $ 1 in December), and the purchase rate was 495.75 AMD / $ 1. Of these, $ 46.8 million was sold in January, $ 34.8 million in March and $ 74.7 million in April. And in February and May, the Central Bank did not intervene in the foreign exchange market. In H1 2021, $ 2.2 billion, 337.6 million euros and 36.03 billion rubles were bought on the intrabank foreign exchange market, and $ 2.4 billion, 464.4 million euros and 26.9 billion rubles were sold, which formed the purchase rate in June at the level of 510.96 AMD / $ 1, and 616.97 AMD / 1 EUR and 7.03 AMD / 1 RUB, and the selling rate at the level of 514.09 AMD / $ 1, and 621.34 AMD / 1 EUR and 7.13 AMD / 1 RUB, against December 518.20 AMD / $ 1 and 626.25 AMD  / EUR 1 - for purchase and AMD 521.46 / $ 1 and AMD 633.77 / EUR 1 - for sale. In H1 2021, only dollar transactions in the amount of $ 357.7 million were carried out on the interbank currency market, which was accompanied by the revaluation of the dram against the US dollar to 509.25 AMD / $ 1 in June from 522.61 AMD / $ 1 in December.  The exchange currency platform has been idle for the fourth year.
