Efforts are underway to enhance seismic safety at Armenian NPP

ArmInfo.Andranik Piloyan, the Minister of Emergency Situations, Ashot Martirosyan, the Chairman of the Nuclear Safety CommitҐҐ in the Government of RA and Eduard  Martirosyan, the General Director of "Armenian Nuclear Power Plant"  CJSC signed a Memorandum of cooperation to improve data collection  and exchange through the seismological system, to study the seismic  mode of the ANPP and the surrounding area.

As the press service of the RA MES reports, Andranik Piloyan, the  Minister of Emergency Situations assured that the signing of the  Memorandum will give the opportunity to further expand to a new level  the cooperation of a structure of strategic importance for the  country, aimed at increasing the security of the Armenian nuclear  power plant.

In his turn, Ashot Martirosyan, the Chairman of the Nuclear Safety  CommitҐҐ highlighted the seismic safety of the nuclear power plant in  the context of general safety and emphasized that the support of the  International Atomic Energy Agency can be expected both in technical  assistance and development of professional knowledge, if necessary.

According to Eduard Martirosyan, the General Director of "Armenian  Nuclear Power Plant" CJSC the fruitful collaboration with the  Ministry of ES is continuous, the issues related to seismic safety  were discussed and raised during the last visit of the Minister to  the Nuclear Power Plant: the signed Memorandum was aimed at resolving  them.

According to the document, based on the legislation RA and other  normative legal acts, seismic monitoring of the area around the ANPP  will be implemented by the relevant structural subdivisions, the  uninterrupted operation of the modernized seismic network,  registration of earthquakes and further analysis will be ensured.

The specialized structural subdivisions will be involved in the  actions envisaged by the Memorandum, if necessary, they will be able  to sign civil agreement contracts for the implementation of these  actions as sides, as well as apply to other organizations for  ancillary activities or financial support. The procedure for  transferring information was also defined.

It should be noted that the document will be valid for 5 years, it  can be extended for in the same period of time.
