ArmInfo.Deputy Prime Minister of Armenia Mher Grigoryan hopes that it will be possible to keep the price of Russian gas in the foreseeable future. Deputy Prime Minister of the Government of Armenia Mher Grigoryan stated this in an interview with journalists on September 17.
He explained that the price of gas on world markets in recent days has renewed its historical maximum, reaching about $ 900, after which it went down. "The problem is that this is happening against the background of our tariff of $ 165 at the border, which causes certain difficulties in the negotiations for Armenia," he said. Meanwhile, the Deputy Prime Minister once again did not share the details of the negotiations with the Russian side.
At the same time, as Grigoryan pointed out, Yerevan is considering the possibility of importing gas from other countries, but this decision should be made on the basis of infrastructure capabilities. "This approach is being implemented within the framework of a swap deal (SWAP) with Iran," the Deputy Prime Minister explained.
To recall, head of Gazprom Alexey Miller and Acting Deputy Prime Minister of Armenia Mher Grigoryan signed a supplementary agreement to the contract for the supply of gas to CJSC Gazprom Armenia on December 31, 2018. Gas price for Armenia on the border with Georgia from the beginning 2019 was determined at $ 165 per thousand cubic meters. $ 150. "Gazprom Export" LLC and "Gazprom Armenia" CJSC on December 30, 2020 extended the contract for the supply of gas to Armenia for the first quarter of 2021.
On September 15, 2021, in parliament during the government hour, Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan said that negotiations with Gazprom on the gas price are permanent. According to him, "Gazprom" insists that within the framework of the agreement of 2013, the amount of profit specified in the document does not satisfy them. "But this is a working process, and I will refrain from providing additional information, since the negotiation process continues and I hope nothing unexpected will happen in the gas price," Mher Grigoryan said.
It should be noted that Armenia carries out a barter deal with Iran "gas in exchange for electricity" at the rate of 1 cubic meter of blue fuel from Iran in exchange for 3 kW / h of electricity from Armenia. Gas supplies are carried out via the Iran-Armenia gas pipeline, and electricity from Armenia is sent to Iran via two power lines.
"Gazprom" PJSC is the only gas supplier to Armenia for domestic consumption. Russian "blue fuel" supplies to consumers in Armenia are carried out by Gazprom Armenia (a subsidiary of Gazprom) in transit through the territory of Georgia.
