Overchuk: The unblocking all economic and transport links in the  region will increase the trade turnover between Armenia and Russia

ArmInfo. The unblocking of all economic and transport links in the region will increase the trade turnover between Armenia and Russia. Deputy Prime Minister of  Russia Alexei Overchuk said this in an interview with journalists on  the sidelines of the Armenian Business Forum in Yerevan on September  20.

"The work of the trilateral working group (Armenia, Azerbaijan,  Russia) is proceeding normally. The parties are committed to  unblocking transport communications. Obviously, this will create new  opportunities for increasing trade between our countries and in the  region as a whole," Overchuk said, adding, that now there is a  discussion on how to do this.

He also noted that a large Russian business mission has arrived in  Yerevan and the parties are counting on creating new contacts in  various sectors of the economy, which will help bring relations  between the countries to the next stage.

"We have already increased our trade compared to the previous year,  but we can achieve more," the Russian Deputy Prime Minister said.

To note, according to the final data of the Statistical Committee of  the Republic of Armenia, Russia holds the leadership in Armenia's  foreign trade turnover with a volume of $ 1.3 billion in Jan-July  2021, with a change of y-o-y dynamics from the 3.3% decline to  18.4% growth. Russia also retains leadership in export and import - $  451 million and $ 880.1 million, respectively. Moreover, the y-o-y  dynamics of exports for the year came out of the 16.9% decline by  34.6% growth, while the growth of imports accelerated from 3.6% to  11.5%.

To recall, the agreement on unblocking regional communications was  reached on January 11 this year at a meeting in Moscow of the leaders  of Russia, Armenia and Azerbaijan. Then, for these purposes, it was  decided to create a working group at the level of deputy prime  ministers of the three countries, which will focus on establishing  transport and economic ties in the region. The last, seventh meeting  of the group was held in August this year.
