This was due to the improvement in the annual dynamics of exports and imports - with the entry into growth, and the export rates turned out to be much faster than imports - 49.9% versus 7.9%, while in the previous two years the trend of both indicators was downward, accelerating to 25.3-18.8% from pre-covid 18.8-11.4%. As a result, the share of Armenia's foreign trade turnover with the EU countries in the overall structure of foreign trade increased from 18.5% to 20.2% on an annual basis.
In the structure of Armenia's foreign trade with the EU countries in January-August 2021, the largest share fell on Italy - 18.1% or $ 182.7 million (with the release of the annual dynamics from 17.1% decline to 21.9% growth), Bulgaria - 18% or $ 182.6 million (with a reversal of the annual trend from a 16.9% decline to 43.7% growth), Germany - 17.8% or $ 179.6 million (with an output of the annual dynamics of 30.4% decline by 6.5% growth), the Netherlands - 12.4% or $ 125.3 million (with the release of the annual dynamics from the 30.9% decline to 37.3% growth), and Belgium - 6.2% or $ 62.7 million (with a reversal of the annual trend from a 33.5% decline to 46.3% growth).
The negative balance of foreign trade between Armenia and Germany decreased by 23% to $ 76 million, while with Italy, on the contrary, increased by 8.4% to $ 108.1 million. And in terms of imports, Italy holds the lead - $ 145.4 million with an annual growth of 16.5%, the second place is Germany - $ 127.8 million with an annual decline of 4.4%, the third is France - $ 52 million with an annual decline of 3.7%. Belgium, the Netherlands and Bulgaria occupy the 5th, 6th and 9th positions in terms of imports with volumes of $ 28.3 million, $ 22.7 million and $ 16.9 million, respectively, with annual growth in the range of 5.6-44.8% (minimum - Netherlands, maximum - Bulgaria and slightly below Belgium).
In total, Armenia's foreign trade turnover in January-August 2021 amounted to $ 5 billion, with an annual growth of 12.7% (against a 10.2% decline a year earlier). In particular, the growth in export volumes by 21.8% to $ 1.9 billion was accompanied by an increase in imports by 7.7% to $ 3.1 billion, while a year earlier both items were in decline - exports by 6% and imports by 12.4%.
