ArmInfo.Metallurgical industry of Armenia in January-August 2021 accelerated y-o-y production growth from 8.3% to 18.5%. As evidenced by the data of the Statistical Committee of the Republic of Armenia, the improvement in dynamics is due to the many-fold increase in the production of castings from unalloyed (carbon) steel.
According to the source, castings from unalloyed (carbon) steel were produced in the reporting period in the amount of 66.152 thousand tons, with a tangible acceleration in annual growth from 11.5% to 6.6-fold. At the same time, in August, production volumes decreased by 26.5%, amounting to 9.018 thousand tons.
The production of copper concentrate continued to grow, with acceleration in y-o-y rates from 3.6% to 4.1%, with a volume of 260.9 thousand tons provided in January-August 2021. And in August alone, the volume of production of copper concentrate decreased by 3.2% to 28.8 thousand tons.
For other types of production in the metallurgical industry, a deterioration in y-o-y dynamics was observed in the reporting period. Thus, the production of molybdenum concentrate turned from a 1.7-fold increase towards a 4.6% decline, amounting to 15.464 thousand tons, while in August it decreased by 16.5% to 1.606 thousand tons.
Zinc concentrate production reversed its y-o-y dynamics from 21.2% growth to 20% decline, amounting to 7.244 thousand tons, but in August alone, the volume increased by 5.6% - to 738 tons.
Ferromolybdenum production changed the y-o-y trend from 16.7% growth to 3.5% decline, amounting to 4.787 thousand tons, while in August alone the volume sank more significantly - by 41.7% to 387 tons.
The production of aluminum foil also decreased in the reporting period - by 3.9% per annum (against 14% growth a year earlier), providing a volume of 22.589 thousand tons. But in August alone, a 5.5% increase in volumes was recorded - up to 2.901 thousand tons.
The production of pipes and hollow sections also showed a deterioration in y-o-y dynamics - from 55.7% growth to 15.8% decline, amounting to 10,145 thousand tons, and in August alone the volume increased by 16% - to 1,461 thousand tons.
To note, all metals produced in Armenia are exported, mainly to Europe and the United States.
