Population of Armenia decreased by 1.1 thousand people by October 1

ArmInfo. By October 1, 2021, the population of Armenia decreased by 0.04% or 1.1 thousand people, amounting to 2.967 million people. This is evidenced by the data of  the RA Statistical Committee.

According to the source, the urban population as of the reporting  date is 1.896 million people or 63.9% of the total population, and  1.071 million people live in the villages or 36.1%. The number of  urban residents decreased by 0.2% on a y-o-y terms, while the number  of rural residents, on the contrary, increased by 0.2% on a y-o-y  terms. At the same time, the population of Yerevan increased by 0.4%  per annum, amounting to 1.096 million people. Thus, 36.9% of the  total population of the country is concentrated in the capital.

According to statistics, the most densely populated are the two  regions close to the capital - Armavir (264.8 thousand people) and  Ararat (257.4 thousand people). This is followed by: Kotayk (252.1  thousand people), Shirak (230.3 thousand people), Gegharkunik (227.3  thousand people) and Lori (212.2 thousand people). In Syunik,  Aragatsotn and Tavush, the number of citizens living is 134.6  thousand, 124.7 thousand and 119.7 thousand, respectively. And the  most sparsely populated region of the country continues to be Vayots  Dzor, where only 47.6 thousand people live.
