Natural population growth in Armenia decreased by 40.6% per annum in  January-September 2021

In Armenia, in January-September 2021, 26,809 children were born, which is 0.9% higher than a year ago, and in a two-year context, the growth was  1.4%.  According to the Statistical Committee of the Republic of  Armenia, the birth rate per 1000 inhabitants at the end of the  reporting period amounted to 12.1 ppm, against 12 ppm in 2020 and  2019.

The highest birth rate was registered in the city of Yerevan, where  11203 children were born during the reporting period. This is  followed by the Kotayk region, where the number of children born was  2296. In Ararat and Armavir, 2166 and 2151 children were born. Over  1800 children were born in Shirak, Gegharkunik and Lori regions.  There are over 1000 children born in Aragatsotn and Syunik regions,  while more than 900 children were born in Tavush. And the lowest  birth rate was registered in Vayots Dzor region, where only 396  children were born.

According to statistics, 23 674 people died in Armenia during the  reporting period, which is 11.2% higher than a year ago, and by 20.9%  in two years. The mortality rate in the country was 10.7 ppm, against  9.6 ppm for the same period in 2020, and 8.7 ppm in 2019. The  absolute value of natural population growth was 3,135 people, which  is 40.6% less than a year ago, and in comparison with 2019 - by  54.3%. The rate of natural population growth was 1.4 ppm, versus 2.4  ppm in the same period in 2020, and 3.3 ppm in 2019.  According to  statistics, the population of Armenia as of October 1, 2021 amounted  to 2.967 million people, decreasing in y-o-y terms by 0.04% or 1.1  thousand people.
