ArmInfo. Armenia plans to extend the VAT exemption for electric vehicles until January 1, 2024. On December 9, Deputy Minister of Environment Gayane Gabrielyan presented the draft law on making amendments to the Tax Code of the Republic of Armenia.
"It is planned to extend until January 1, 2024, the validity period of the privilege for the import and alienation of vehicles, in particular large and medium buses, cars, motorcycles, mopeds, operating exclusively on electric traction," Gabrielyan explained.
As stated in the explanation to the document, both importers and sellers of all electric vehicles will be exempted from VAT. According to the source, the decision will help popularize this type of transport. So, if in 2018 only 12 electric vehicles were imported to the RA, then after the adoption of this decision - in 2019-2021 - already 5200.
A tax break for exemption from VAT on imports of electric vehicles was established in 2019. In parallel, the EEC Council in March 2020 decided to abolish the customs duty on electric vehicles imported from third countries to the EAEU by the end of 2021.
