Armenian government to allocate 155 million drams for project to  create accelerator for development of women`s entrepreneurship

ArmInfo. The Armenian government will allocate 155 million drams for a project implemented with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) to create an  accelerator for the development of women's entrepreneurship and  women's employment in Armenia.  Minister of Economy of Armenia Vahan  Kerobyan and UNDP Resident Representative in Armenia Natia  Natsvlishvili discussed this during the meeting.

According to the press service of the RA Economy Ministry, the  "Accelerator # 5" project was launched with the aim of realizing the  economic potential of women, and will be aimed at stimulating women's  entrepreneurship and increasing the level of their demand in the  labor market by strengthening competitive advantages.

In this context, V. Kerobyan stressed the importance of the role of  women in the economy, adding that their potential in Armenia is not  fully realized. At the same time, he expressed confidence that the  jointly implemented programs will increase the role of women in the  economic development of the country.

During the meeting V. Kerobyan also presented to the guest the main  provisions of the economic block of state policy, measures envisaged  for their implementation, and also spoke about the ongoing reforms.  He named reforms in the land and water sectors as priorities and  stressed that the Ministry's focus is on programs for the development  of tourism and small and medium-sized enterprises in rural  communities, since the latter will contribute to the creation of  non-agricultural jobs, which will allow the establishment of  alternative work in the communities.

According to N. Natsvlishvili, the provisions of the economic program  of the Armenian government are consonant with the UNDP goals aimed at  the development of rural communities. In particular, UNDP Resident  Representative spoke about the results of the programs they are  implementing in rural communities and plans for the future, which  will mainly be aimed at the development of agriculture, tourism,  small and medium-sized businesses.

Touching upon the issues of the green economy, it was noted that UNDP  is now developing a strategy for the development of this direction,  which is consonant with the "green" policy adopted by the Armenian  government. Speaking about the "green" agenda, V. Kerobyan noted that  from January 1, 2022, the country's government intends to extend the  import of electric vehicles on preferential terms for another 3  years; in addition, the possibility of producing electric vehicles in  Armenia is being considered. At the end of the meeting, the parties  noted the importance of ensuring the duration of current programs and  implementation of work towards new joint projects.
