ArmInfo. The Turkish Pegasus low-cost airline applied to the Civil Aviation Committee of Armenia to obtain permission to operate Istanbul-Yerevan- Istanbul flights.
"Pegasus has applied for two flights a week starting from February," Sona Harutyunyan, press secretary of the RA Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructures, told TASS.
The Civil Aviation Committee has begun consideration of the application and will make a decision within a reasonable time frame.
Earlier, the Armenian FlyoneArmenia airline received permission from the local aviation authorities to carry out Yerevan - Istanbul - Yerevan charter flights and is awaiting a similar decision from the Turkish side.
On December 6, 2021, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said that Ankara is considering applications of Turkish and Armenian airlines to operate flights between the countries. In mid-December, Ankara and Yerevan informed about the appointment of special representatives for the normalization of bilateral relations. In addition, the Armenian government decided not to extend the ban on the import of Turkish goods, introduced at the end of December 2020, from January 1, 2022.
Despite the common border, there are no diplomatic relations between Armenia and Turkey. In 2009, in Zurich, the foreign ministers of the two states signed protocols on the establishment of diplomatic relations and on the principles of relations, but these documents were not ratified. On March 1, 2018, Yerevan announced the cancellation of the protocols.
